Step One: Remove Lips From Can

No I don't mean THAT can but the soda can! I have been a lifelong soda addict (and when I say lifelong I mean mama put milk and Pepsi in my bottle as a baby kind of lifelong) and seriously get migraines when I do without it for over 24 hours.

Lately though I've been trying to kick the habit by drinking more water and taking a caffiene pill once a day to ward off the headaches. It works really well in the fact that I'm drinking a liter or more a day of water but it doesn't work well when I get stressed out (which is every five minutes) and start jonesing for a soda like a smoker does for a cig.

When that happens you can usually find me across the street at the lil grocery store buying a 2 liter that I will have completely torn through by the time dinner arrives. Sad? Yes. Pathetic? Yes? Good for my ulcer? Not even remotely.

So today I ran across this "campaign" Kick The Can and I am hereby pledging that I will also try to kick the habit of drinking soda. My evil nemesis comes in the form of Wild Cherry Pepsi (Cherry Coke if WCP is not available) so as cute as their Diet Coke Kick The Can Button is, I have made my own. LOL.

I hereby vow that I will end cut down on my soda intake and break lighten my addiction.

Hey, you didn't think I was just going to out and out quit did you? Have you SEEN what my daily life is like? Pffttttt I may be screwed up sometimes but I'm not nuts! ;)

I kicked the can once - now I just drink straight from the bottle (2 litre of diet coke with lime please).
I know, I know, I need help.
In my defense, I have 3 boys under the age of 5. Trust me, if that doesn't drive you to drink, not much will. At least I'm not drunk - I need my wits about me with that crew....
I do like your button though :) I don't think we have wild cherry pepsi here, so moving to canada would automatically kick your habit (and drive you to new ones.)

Oh god Jo I am so with you! Check out this Natalie Dee cartoon. It's me drooling over a big gulp of diet dr. pepper or diet cherry coke.

Cute button you made.

I wish you luck! It can be done. I used to drink 4-5 Cokes a day. I then switched to Diet Pepsi. I then switched to Diet Rite -- basically fizzy colored water. Now I only drink a fountain pop on occasion -- a couple times a week.

It's a hard addiction to break!

You know.... I actually kicked the can right before getting pregnant and the easier way to wean yourself is by buying fizzy water or club soda and mixing it with your favorite juices. It still doesn't have the Pepsi fizz, but it IS fizzylicious and has less calories ;o)

GOOD LUCK!!!!

We started this last week...and it is amazing. I love the idea of the caffeine pill, as it is often too warm for tea or coffee! I just had read an article on the damages to tooth enamel, and the high sodium and sugar contents are not to be wasted on a drink (I'd much rather eat chips and chocolate, thank you!)
Here's to kicking the can with you!

Good for you! Your post got me thinking about my own soda addiction so I wrote a post about it.

Okay so far I suck at kicking the can. I've had soda every single day since I posted this. LMAO. I am going to TRY to start my little diet thingie muh-whozit again on Monday so I will try to start kicking the can again then.

I may end up needing a sobriety... I mean can kicking buddy through this. I just don't know if I can do this on my own.

*snort* That was me laughing not snorting WC Pepsi btw. ;)

I cannot kick the can. BUT, I only have one can a day, so that's okay in my book. The healthy police are going to come get me any day now, but I don't care.

I could stop if I wanted to, though...

You are a stronger woman than me, says the caffeine addict.
I'm impressed!

Good luck with weaning yourself off the can! I'd managed to remove caffeine from my life 'til one of my meds made everything taste bad - especially water. Dr. Pepper is less offensive than just about any other drink.

Looks like we have something else in common in addition to fibromyalgia and neuropathy and homeschooling, from the title of this blog :-)

I kicked it back in February...and I have lost 35lbs! Granted, I was drinking about 12 a day (no shit); and I have replaced it with Dasani lemon water. I have one in my hand all day long. The headaches lasted for two months (of course, I just quit cold turkey). The weight loss is certainly an incentive!!

In the words of Bernie (one of the Rasta jellyfish) on Shark Tales- "I'm A Weiner!"

:(

I think I've had mroe soda this week than I've had in the last three months.

Maybe it's time for me to kick kicking the can. lol
